What We Stand For

Delaware DSA is committed to creating a society built on compassion and equity rather than greed and oppression. We believe in a just world based on popular control of resources and production, equitable distribution, and a dignified life for every person.

Who We Are

Delaware DSA is a local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the United States with over 92,000 members and chapters in all 50 states. We became an official chapter in 2021 and represent all three counties in Delaware: Kent, New Castle and Sussex.

Our Core Principles

From our chapter bylaws - the foundational commitments that guide our work

Rejection of Capitalist Economic Order

We oppose an economic system driven solely by private profit, alienated labor, entrenched wealth, and power disparities based on race, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.

A New Delaware Way

We envision a humane social order rooted in democratic socialism where popular control of resources, production, and economic planning replaces corporate power and inequality.

Freedom of Organization

We support independent trade unions, women's rights groups, political parties, and other formations as safeguards against an intrusive state, while respecting diverse political tendencies and religious beliefs.

Our Strategic Goals

Three clear objectives that guide our chapter's long-term organizing strategy

Build a Recognizable Socialist Presence

Establish a visible, influential socialist presence within Delaware's broader democratic left coalition.

Bylaws Article II.3.i

Dismantle Delaware's Corporate Haven Status

Challenge and work to dismantle Delaware's corporate haven structures—including the Chancery Court—that perpetuate economic inequality and corporate dominance.

Bylaws Article II.3.ii

Create a Majority Movement

Foster a movement capable of realizing democratic socialism at both state and national levels by raising awareness of the conflict between corporate power and people's interests.

Bylaws Article II.3.iii

Our Beliefs

We are socialists because we believe in justice. We are democratic because transformation must come from the bottom up.

Popular Control

We believe in democratic control of resources and production by working people, not corporate elites.

Equitable Distribution

Resources should be distributed based on human need, ensuring everyone has access to a dignified life.

Bottom-Up Change

Real transformation happens when millions of working-class people stand together, not through elite politics.

Democratic Organization

We are a member-funded, member-run organization that fights for reforms empowering working people.

Chapter Priorities for 2025

Fighting for working people across Delaware

Defending Communities from ICE

Working alongside migrants' rights organizations to protect communities from ICE authoritarianism and create sanctuary policies throughout the state.

Delaware Against Apartheid

Building coalitions to decrease economic support for the state of Israel through targeted campaigns like 'No Appetite 4 Apartheid' and establishing apartheid-free zones.

Housing Justice & Rent Stabilization

Fighting for tenant protections, promoting affordable housing policies, and organizing renters through our H.O.M.E.S. Campaign.

Making Delaware a Trans Refuge State

Working to transform Delaware from a state that 'doesn't persecute' to one that actively supports and protects transgender people through model legislation.
